On the 9th of November in 1769 the first documented food co-operative and credit union in Britain was started by sixteen master weavers and their apprentices in Fenwick Ayrshire, and their idea of buying a sack of flour to share together at a lower price grew wings and flew around the world. The SACK project has published this booklet to mark the 250 years anniversary of this event, and to share the early stories of over 40 Scottish communities as they learned how to co-operative for mutual support.
