Mador of the moor

Hogg, James, 1770-18352005
Books, Manuscripts
Scottish popular tradition includes a group of stories about a king who has adventures as he wanders in disguise among his people. A satire of Scott's immensely popular 'Lady of the Lake', 'Mador of the Moor' subverts and questions this tradition, with its heroine being a peasant girl pregnant out of wedlock.
