Iona McGregor's thoughtful and carefully-researched text is peppered with contemporary comments from the children themselves, and Dorothy Kidd captions the photographs with the intimate details of their lives. All of the photographs in this book are drawn from the Scottish Ethnological Archive, to which many individuals, groups and organizations have contributed material on many aspects of Scottish Life.
